Are Foxy Lady palms sterile? DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDE

That should happen in shade and then it should be shifted up and placed gradually into more and more sun over the course of a month or two until it is hardened and can go in the ground. Do you have a FULL shade spot under some trees or overhang? I used a 4 foot bamboo stick I bought at Home Depot and tied it to the broken leaf. Mine's established and I still water it almost daily.

Do you know if this palm was field grown, dug up, and then placed in its pot? Also the variegation seems to be a morphological example of hybrid decline as the greens show hybrid vigor. The seeds that Mike Evans germinated were F2, there is no guarantee they will be Wodveitchias. Foxtails that I've grown all seem to throw one spear and sit for a long time (weeks to months), at which point they resume normal growth. Pretty sure they keep their variegation, at this stage we can already see the difference between the variegated lot and the greenies. I had about 7 seeds so I just planted them all, one popped. I agree with Len, yours is most likely a RSN Hawaiian grown, or Sparksman Florida import that has been resold. If you do the 24hr soak thing, put a weak solution of seaweed extract in the water too. This would happen far more quickly for you than it does for those of us in the humid tropics where the plant tissues survive on atmospheric moisture for ages before the final collapse. That thing is so root bound that you need to do slow drip like they do or just plant it. Most likely a resold Rancho Soledad plant or a Florida import from Sparkman. But if there is actually "zero" movement, your palm is probably already dead. Even in the slowest sickliest palm, you should notice some movement of the spear - even 1/8 of an inch in a week assures that your palm is still alive.

If you're up to a good challenge, Kopsick Palm - Arboretum in St. Pete has a few specimens, at least one that can / has produced seed. Or is there anyone on this forum growing the legendary tree? Lol but really I've only heard amazing things from this palm and I absolutely love the looks from it. The hybrid Wodyetia bifurcata x Veitchia arecina. I came across the legendary Foxy lady palm.
  • They will feel heavier than the empty seeds as well.
  • Well mine has a sparse seed set that dropped today.
  • Where did that palm originate?
  • That palm is 100% solid dark healthy green.
  • Seed from a foxtail palm will only look like foxtail seeds even if something else is going in the seed.
  • Regular 'ol green specimens always look flawless.

I have an f2 foxy lady I might be interested in letting go if you are interested I can come pick up that palm at your convenience, deliver you $200 cash, plus the 3 Pseudophoenix seedlings in the pic if you would be interested in selling. I have got palms from Flouibunda and jungle music and never had the problem I had with this palm of you are going to ship palms at least learn how to pack them!!! I never said the palm looked bad I said it was basically bare root and variegated which I specifically said I didn’t want!!! He is the only one to have a problem with their foxy lady order, and started to complain even before it was delivered. 1 of each 3 and 7 is slightly variegated with 2 of each being greens. If this one produces seed, you should be able to tell if they have a chance.. While the largest would flower & produce seed often, most seed i'd collect were empty or basically liquid when opened. The only mature ( and flowering /seeding ) specimens i'm currently familiar with are those in Kopsick's collection. Floribunda had some f2 foxy ladies a while ago. You did not get a palm that was basically bare root and a palm you specifically said you did not want!!! You got an amazing holy grail palm at a discount price.

They will feel heavier than the empty seeds as well. When looking at seeds on the Kopsick specimen(s), they will have a look that falls somewhere between those off Veitchia, and those off Foxtails. As far as I know it is possible for these two to hybridize. Good stuff when ever someone finds a full green or the lucky charm let me know would like a small one it’s almost like finding Waldo There is full green and mostly green. Good quality plant and amazing growth. I bought a 7 gallon from Premier Growers about 8 months ago and it's already outgrowing the 25 gallon pot I moved it into. Was it grown from a seed made by nature or by manual cross pollination? Here is the palm, looks very healthy aside from the obvious cold spots on the old fronds.
  • I highly recommend that you just plant this.
  • Going to a spot in the Los Angeles area
  • They seem to have an overall hard time surviving.
  • I have plenty of foxtails and Veitchia arecina in the yard so maybe it did a cross back with one of them to become fertile?
  • If there are variegated foxladies, they are obvious.
  • Pretty sure they keep their variegation, at this stage we can already see the difference between the variegated lot and the greenies.
I have 6 mature foxy ladies and all but 2 are variegated. That is how you can tell the difference between foxtail and Foxy Lady hybrid. Note the smooth texture of the seed fiber compared to a course fiber foxtail. I do not grow foxtails, so there could not be a mix up there. I have plenty of foxtails and Veitchia arecina in the yard so maybe it did a cross back with one of them to become fertile? Yeah I had one sprout a while back but had some irrigation issues to my potted plants in my absence and it ended up drying out and dying.

Wodyetia X Veitchia AKA Foxy Lady

Can anyone tell me where I can buy a small foxy lady or gear me in the right deduction thank you Myolensis triple and the (now infamous) foxy lady... Last year I added three Beccariophoenix alfredii, which I'm really liking so far due to their hardiness, and some Areca palms. I caught the "Palm tree bug" a few years ago when my wife and I wanted to add some planters to our yard, and I've been turned into a palm-tree nerd, as i call myself, ever since. So today is my 24 hour soak, I added some super thrive to the water at 1 tsp per gallon and am hoping that my plant drinks it up! After many years and trees that are ungodly tall, my foxy lady, 1 of 2 dropped 2 very ripe very real looking seeds. I’m hoping that the foxy lady will turn all green it only has 1 frond that is variegated. I've been growing this foxy lady a few years now and I think it's time to rehome her. F1 hybrids tend to be more consistent, and I guess this is why what we know as a foxy lady (F1) has its signature look. Is there any way to tell if seeds are hybridized by looking at them as they develop? So my question would be if foxy gold this palm is mostly green will it do well in full sun Hot and dry in summer, humid and sticky monsoon season, perfect weather Christmas time One is variegated and the other is not?? Are they famous because they are the first to produce viable seed? Are they the first two foxy ladies cultivated??? Being in tropical Cairns, they were probably seedlings 3 yrs ago. Already have an account? Regardless, good luck and hopefully you'll be able to get a hold of this great palm sooner rather than later.. Bigger " seeder " at Kopsick sits close to where the collection's Veitchia grove is located. I have little doubt that had it been spring, or this time of year, germination likely would have succeeded.
